This game is not a great "rental". You need to spend some time with it, just like you need to spend time with real bowling, to become good at it. I think the folks who dislike it expected a cute little diversion, like the pack-in, but instead got handed a more realistic simulation that they, frankly, couldn't handle.
There's no doubt that this game was rushed. No options for different balls, ball weights, lane conditions, etc. However, anyone who thinks this game is worse than the pack-in Wii-Sports bowling has been competing against his Grandma too much. After getting a feel for this game and the far more realistic control it provides, Wii Sports bowling, well, just sucks.
