we recently rented this game for our girls to try out because we all love playing the Wii Sports tennis. Generally, with the cost of new games we find it best to rent them before buying. Now, onto the reveiw.

this game is fun, however it just seems that something is missing. after 3 days with the game our girls kind of lost interest in it. it's fun playing with the Mario gang and on the different courts and each of the characters special shots or abilities. the problem i noticed when playing the game with our girls is sometimes the special abilities take over too much!

right when you think you have a good shot, the special abilities take over and return your shots. and the special abilites do seem to get repetitive.

My husband and I were very excited when we bought our wii, but quickly learned that we needed something else to play besides the wii sports. We like to have family and friends over and thought this would be great since it's a "party" game. However, this game is not as good as it looks. Wii Play [No Remote]

This game has some pretty fun games to play. We had fun with the hockey game, the cow racing, shooting and especially 9-ball. They are all very basic games though and as a stand-alone this just isn't worth it. I think this should be another game like Wii Sports that is included in the console package. It's fun but it's cheap and basic.

Wii Rock Band 2 Standalone Guitar

I have both the RockBand 2 box-set guitar (black) and this stand-alone guitar. It seems there may be some variance between individual guitars as evidenced by reviewers here on Amazon but here is my experience:

First, the stand-alone is nearly identical in materials, weight, and durability, the only visible difference being that the original is shiny black and the stand-alone has a traditional "sunburst" design, not quite as shiny. Both look good to me.

The neck fret buttons are equally clicky on my black and stand-alone guitars and reaction times seem to be the same.

The major differences are in the strum bar and overdrive sensor:
* The strum bar has a very quiet click to it, much quieter than the original black guitar and feels a bit tighter, which I like a lot.

* The overdrive sensor is MUCH improved, setting off your overdrive immediately with no delay. I find that if I keep the guitar level while playing I don't have issues with setting it off accidentally though it would be very easy to do. I prefer the new sensitivity over the original guitar.

As a real-life guitar player with multiple instruments, I find that the differences give each peripheral its own "personality" and I don't prefer either over the other; I just grab the closest guitar and alter my playing ever so slightly for the quirks of each, just like with a real instrument.

I have not had any experience with guitar peripherals from other manufacturers (Mad Catz, Niko). I bought this guitar because of its high reviews and because the official guitars simply LOOK better than off-brand guitars. I have not been disappointed.Buy Wii Rock Band 2 Standalone Guitar!

Sega Superstars Tennis

Sonic has been hanging around Mario a lot lately, and it seems he brought a few tricks back with him. Sega Super Star Tennis involves familiar locations, characters and powers from a variety of Sega games (similar to Super Smash Bros.) and puts it all together into wacky tournaments and missions based on Tennis (like many of the Mario sports titles). The controls are nice because there are a number of different schemes. You can play it one handed like the Wii Sports tennis or use the nunchuck to control your character. You can also hold the wii-mote on its side like a traditional video game.
This game has a lot of fun missions based on classic and new age SEGA games. My personal favorite is the levels based on virtual squad where you must hit tennis balls at card board cut outs of terrorists.
Any Sonic fan will love seeing their Hedgehog hero in a number of wacky new situations, Like battling the aliens from space harrier to taking zombies from House of the dead. Overall its good fun for SEGA fans of any age. Buy Sega Superstars Tennis!

LEGO Batman

My wife and I (both 30+) are always on the look-out for fun co-op games we can play together on the Wii. After shooting up the opposite end of the spectrum with ultra-violence (House of the Dead: Overkill) we really dug the innocent, silly fun of "LEGO Batman."

This was my first go at a LEGO game. I haven't played either Lego Star Wars or Lego Indiana Jones, but I will definitely be checking them out. This game was just so much fun! Great graphics, great game play, great sense of humor. It was challenging enough that it took us awhile to get used to the controllers, and master the combat system (gotta work that batarang), but not so difficult that it was frustrating. We went to the Internet a few times when we were stuck, but for the most part we just whipped right through. Three hours can go by without even noticing, because you get so involved in the game.

The "LEGO Batman" isn't exactly classic Batman, although many of the same characters are involved. Robin is a scrappy little punk, and the Joker is a wacky prankster rather than a deadly killer. Clayface, The Penguin, The Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, The Riddler, Mr. Freeze and Two Face make up the rest of the villain contingent. The heroes are Batman and Robin, of course, but some others like Nightwing, Batgirl and Commissioner Gordon are available as unlockable characters.

Game play involves three main missions, against The Riddler, The Penguin and the Joker. Each main mission has about four sub-missions each captained by a different villain. After you play through them in "story mode," you unlock the "free play" mode. In "free play," you can head back to the same scenario but this time with extra powered-up suits and characters that weren't available in the first run. There are a lot of secret items to collect, and if you are a completest you will have a great time picking up all the hidden pieces.

The Wii remote use is pretty basic. You will need the nunchuk to maneuver the characters, and you mostly use the A and B buttons on the remote. There isn't a lot of remote swinging, which is fine considering how fun the game is. The co-op mode is lots of fun, much more fun than single play. In fact, there are a few scenes where you need co-op mode to advance. Robin needs to push a button while Batman goes through a door and things like that. If you don't have a buddy to play with (or a wife...) that could be a bummer.Buy LEGO Batman!

Call of Duty: World at War

Ok I have played this game on other consoles as well as the PC. The best experiance so far is on the PC.

On the Wii it is a joke. Since the Wee has the worst graphics of any platform games like this just dont hold a candle to the other platforms (PS3, XBox360, PC)

The controllers were non responsive and the graphics slugish at best. and since you are playing at just a little over 640x480 you cant even make out what you are shooting at most of the time.

While I like the Wii for its sport game interaction (The simpler ones) the virtual controllers just dont cut it for a game like this.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 All-Play

This review is solely going to focus on putting as that seems to be a big issue for many people, something I don't understand.

Just to give you'll a background, I'm playing TigerWoods O9 after mastering HotShots Golf on my PSP and if you've played it you will know that putting in HotShots is much harder than on any of the Tiger Woods game iterations. This is why putting in TW09 has been second nature for me. Here is what you need to know to get good putts.

- You have to focus on reading the green. You get only one putt preview (something I honestly think should be done away with entirely. It still makes putting pretty easy, at least for me since I'm used to games like HotShots golf where you have to read the green to make good putts). Here are some tips/suggestions on reading the green:

- Don't try to make rule of thumb approximations such as, if hole is X inches higher then I should up my power by Y%. It just doesn't work well enough beyond a certain point and it won't allow you to improve your game.

DETERMINING POWER FOR PUTT:

- First focus purely on the longitudinal slope of the green, i.e. the slope along the direction of the putt so that you can try to figure out how hard you need to putt. Move the putting arrow back/forward till the shadow lines up with the hole. This means that for a perfectly flat putting green, this is the amount of power you need to hit the shot so as to just make it into the hole. Now focus on the putting lines to read the slope of the green in the direction of the hole. If it is sloping downhill, then you need to lower the power of the shot, so bring the arrow closer towards yourself. Depending on how fast the beads are rolling uphill/downhill you will need to approximate how much more/less power to add on. This is hard initially but you will just have to practice to get a better feeling for this. You do have the putt preview which will help correct any initial errors in your power approximation. More on that later.

- While determining the correct power to use, make sure to take into account changing slopes of the green. For example, the initial section from the ball to midway to the hole might be sloped steeply downhill with the rest of it sloped uphill. In this case you have to remember that the downhill bit will add significant speed to the ball which the uphill component may or maynot be able to compensate for. The best way to guess in such cases is to (as mentioned before) place the arrow on top of the hole, then eyeball the uphill and downhill component and try to guess whether the uphill/downhill slopes balance each other out (in which case you can leave the power as is) or if one of the 2 components is stronger relative to the other, and by how much. Again exact power amounts will be harder to judge initially but at least try to get good at estimating whether you need more or less power than the default (default being the power reading for the arrow placed right on top of the hole).

DETERMINING AIM FOR PUTT:

- Assuming you've done all of the above, you should have some guess for the power to use. Now focus on the lateral slope of the green. Again, it will take practive before you can make very good initial guesses. However here are a couple of tips that should make things easier.

--The lateral slope of the green has less effect closer to the ball, and more effect near the hole. The reason being that when you hit the ball, it is travelling at a much higher speed. Because of this higher momentum it is affected less by the lateral slope of the green. However as it approaches the hole and slows down (I hope it is slowing down! If it isn't you didn't approximate the power for the putt very well) the ball is affected much more by the slope of the green. This is very important to keep in mind as we have a tendency to assume that the lateral slope at all points along the putting line have the same amount of effect on the ball.

-- If you are putting downhill (ie with reduced putting power due to the downward slope) the ball tends to be affected much more by lateral slopes. This is because in downhill slopes, you reduce the power and gravity and the slope of the green plays a stronger role in getting the ball to the hole. On the other hand, if you are putting uphill, you will notice that the ball is less sensitive to lateral slopes since you are powering the ball at a high speed (At least through the initial segment of the putt). In such uphill putts, the trajectory of the ball is much more sensitive to the lateral slope near the hole as the ball slows down when it reaches it.

PUTT PREVIEW:
So after all this, you know roughly how to read the green and make a guess on where you need to aim with the arrow (which indicates your guess for power and direction). Now hit the putt preview button to see what this putt would look like. IMPORTANT: Some sites mistakenly say that the putt preview shows the putt for the direction you chose at 100% power (and not the power you set with the arrow). This is NOT TRUE. It is a true putt preview for the given direction and power guess that you made by placing the putting arrow. Now it is a simple matter of looking at the result, then going back and tweaking the power by moving the arrow to the front or back, and moving the aim left or right to compensate accordingly.

- Remember, for putting (much like in real golf), it is most important to nail the power. You don't want to send a putt going 20 feet past the hole, even if you missed the hole by an inch (laterally). Practice will improve your putting, but till you get really good, you can still make a lot of PARs by focusing on getting the putting speeds right.

- Lastly, when you have very steep lateral slopes in the green, it is harder to read the green separately in terms of X and Y (ie lateral positioning and Power). If the lateral slope is very steep downhill from left to right, then even if the front to back slope is zero (ie the green seems flat front to back), the steep slope from left to right will impart more speed to the ball as it is riding its way down the slope of the hill. In these cases you need to be very careful with getting the putting power correct, hit uphill into the slope, and then let the slope gently roll the ball back down the hill towards the hole. Putt preview is key in these cases so that you can compensate for the power an aim. Try to just get it close to the hole, if you get it in, its a bonus!

PUTTING TECHNIQUE:
This is fairly simple. If you need to hit 75% Power, then just hit B, slowly raise the wiimote back till the powermeter fills up 3/4ths of the way and then bring the wiimote down quickly. The power meter bar is scaled linearly so with a little practice and mental math you can easily figure out exactly where a particular power percentage lies. Don't rush the putt, gradually bring the wiimote back till it fills the bar exactly where you want it and then make the putt. Not a smooth action, but it is a limitation of the wiimote not being sensitive enough and it is the only way to make putting work given the current hardware.

Phew, that was long. It really is simpler if you just give it some time and practice. Most of this is second nature to me. I've only been playing the game for a couple of weeks and I usually take a maximum of two putts to get the ball into the hole (Almost done with Tiger Challenge and I haven't lost a challenge in a while). For me, the putting system has always worked great. I never thought/felt that it was broken. I think that is more an artifact of people being used to EA making putting wayyyy too easy in the past so that even beginners expected to be 14 under par in one round of golf.

There you go, I hope this helps you improve your putting game. It really is a great game and tons of fun. I especially like the online component as it works quite well. Have fun!

Nintendo Wii Guitar Hero World Tour - Guitar Kit

I was a little skeptical of this game at first because I figured there was no way that I'd be able to keep up to have fun but was surprised to find that there are enough skill levels even I could enjoy myself! I now have one of the older white guitar controllers too and can say that this one is definitely larger and feels a little more sturdy. That said I didn't have any problems with the old controller but had to return this new one for a replacement because there was a problem with the plug that connects to the Wii remote (2nd one has worked fine and Amazon's return service is comparable to none!). The new controller has a bar that you can "tap" on instead of using the buttons but I have yet to try that feature. It also has a large button you can press for star power but it seems impossible to get to for me so I just tilt the guitar (which is how the old guitar works too). I have to say one of my biggest regrets with this is that I didn't just go ahead and buy the complete guitar hero kit (particularly on the day it was a gold box special). Also, some other reviewers might have mentioned this but just in case I'd like to say that both the older guitar controller and the new one work with Rock Band 2. I've personally used both and had no problems. The only issue that I'm not sure about is that with GH there is a missed-note sound that comes out of the little speaker on the Wii remote but I haven't noticed that happening with RB. Maybe RB doesn't do that or maybe these controllers don't pick up that feature - either way it isn't a big deal and it's great to know that I can use the equipment with either game. Official Wii Component Video Cable

If you've been playing console games for any length of time, you're used to overpriced accessories, and the Wii is no exception. Branded SD cards, component cables with a proprietary adapter, $20 for a nunchuck, etc. If you're willing to pay the extra for first-party assurance, this cable is for you.

After having the Wii for a few months and having to crawl around behind the entertainment console every time we took it somewhere else (it's a hit at family gatherings and other get-togethers), I decided to get another A/V cable. This way, I would just have to unplug the console and leave the A/V cable (the power adapter and sensor bar are much easier to unplug and pack) when we traveled. I highly recommend this if you take your Wii on the road often. If you do decide to do this, you might as well get the component cable for your place.

It does exactly what is says: enables 480p display of the signal coming from your Wii. This is not HD, but it looks better than the normal 480i. I have compared the difference on my 50" Panasonic TH-50PX80U (720p) and on my parents' 50" Pioneer PDP-5080HD (720p), and while it does smooth the lines and make the overall picture more crisp, it's not like going from standard to high definition. If I showed you the different pictures a week apart, you might not be able to tell the difference. When we're traveling and using the composite cables, I don't notice unless I'm looking for it.

That said, if you're going to be staring at the picture for hours and hours at a time, it's probably worth 12% of the cost of the unit to make that picture look its best. You can go the third-party route, but it's worth it to me to know it's going to work and look good instead of wondering about the manufacturing quality of that $10 generic cable.

It is a bit annoying that you can't splice the audio and video ends as much as with the composite cable, but that's easily taken care of with a trip to your local audio shop for extenders or the routing of signals from your TV to your receiver: most newer TVs will have digital or optical out and almost all TVs have composite out.

I haven't experienced degradation in signal from bundling the cable behind the TV, but I keep it away from the rest of the cables, so that might help. I also had to muscle the connectors in, but all good component cables I've bought are the same way. Unless you're taking them off every week, just be happy they'll never come off.

As other reviewers have pointed out, the Wii does not automatically switch to 480p when you start using this cable. You'll have to manually switch it in the Wii Settings. Also, it should go without saying, but make sure you do have a free component input on your TV and that it can display 480p.

We enjoyed "We Ski" with the skiing, racing and slalom, but have the mountain memorized and were excited to see the release of "We Ski & Snowboard". We love the added dimensions -- the avalanche dangers -- the wild mountain crevices that you fall in and die. The hidden trails, caves and freedom to explore the whole wild mountain is an added dimension to the regular ski resort trails. The races on the wild mountain against five opponents when you don't have any special trail to follow is challenging -- at first you get lost -- then find three or four ways to go -- then you find the fastest (even if it includes jumping cliffs and navigating hidden tunnels). As you can tell, we are extremely pleased with our newest purchase. Buy We Ski and Snowboard!

NASCAR Kart Racing

First, you have to pick a driver to be you (no Mii). Were you Dale Jr. or Jeff Gordon last time? Or was that someone else's Jeff Gordon? Saving is when it decides. I did a few races in the Championship series and had to shut it down before the final race -- that meant I couldn't save. Really dumb.

You don't win by driving fast, you win (or lose) based on power-ups you (or your opponent) receive. You can decide if that's good or bad.

It's been played for about 3 hours now and not one new track has been unlocked. The same boring 4 tracks are used for everything. Something more interested better happen soon.

Wii Charge Station Quad

I tried AA rechargeable batteries prior to a Quad charger like this one. However, unless you are keeping up with removing the batteries and putting them into the charger, it could be a show stopper.

This is comprised of 4 Nickel Metal Hydride batteries and 4 rubberized covers. The handstrap can still be attached while the unit is charging. There is an indicator light to notify you of the charging status and when the remote is charged.

Set up of the batteries is simple. Just remove your factory battery cover, place the battery into the unit and use the accompanying rubber covers. If you have the strap, just be sure that the charging light is on when the remote is placed into the docking station. Green indicates the remote is fully charged and blue indicates that the remote is charging. The base is stable and does not slide off of your entertainment center easily.

The rubberized grip is more comfortable than the plain OEM battery cover. Battery life is very good and is comparable to standard alkaline batteries. Charging from 'empty' requires about 8 hours (overnight). I typically keep the remotes in the docking station to ensure that they are always charged.

Wii Fit Rechargeable Battery Pack for Balance Board

Unless you have your balance board in a room down the hall or your Wii mounted to the top of a flag pool, this item is fine.

After reading some balance board reviews and complaints of poor battery life, I bought this and have been using it for four months now without a problem.

This plugs into one of the Wii USB ports instead of an outlet. That's good if you do not have extra outlets. Of course it will not charge when the Wii is powered off, just like any USB charging device. The USB cable is standard length. It's a great game, but you all know that. The new guitars are really quite fun with the new touch sensitive pad. It looks way cooler when you don't just lift the guitar to activate star power; you use it to finger the solos on the fret board too!

That said, there are disadvantages to getting this game on the Wii. Graphics are meh at best. The crowd has two animations. That is, there will be 100 people in the crowd. But half will be doing the exact same clap in unison, and the rest do the exact same fist pump. Even on stage, the graphics are not as good as the other games on the Xbox 360 (I haven't played on the ps3).

Still if you have a Wii and not another console, grab this game. It's great for parties and small get-togethers. The band play makes it possible to have 4 people all working together at once. Don't worry about being a bad singer either. I can't hold a tune with a bucket, but after failing only twice I can now dooo-dooo my way through most songs on medium, though my friends did start stuffing cotton in their ears.

Oh, one other disadvantage, the online community is rather small. It's very difficult to get an online band going, perhaps if you have more Wii friends it wouldn't be so hard, but it's less than ideal either way.

Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party

We just got a wii. I love this game! It is lot of fun. There are plenty of different games to play to keep from getting boring. It is very funny and entertaining. My side hurt from laughing so much. My kids are all under 8 years old so it was a little hard for them but I think it would be great for parties. This game is great because you can set it up for one player and just hand off the wiimotes after each song (if you only have 2 wiimotes). Plus it gives you a little break in between because this game really is a workout. Once you get the hang of it, it's much easier, but you still get a great arm workout. I know many grown men who love to play this game just as much as I do. I don't think this game is just for the younger crowd. As a matter of fact, I think it's easily all ages and even a family game. Very similar to Dance Dance Revolution in that you follow along to the steps, but with your arms. You can plug in the game and play as much or as little one song or for hours. And, somehow changing the outfits is fun too.

Wii Riiser Aerobic Step for the Wii Fit Balance Board

The Riiser made by ZooZen, is an add on for your Wii Fit Balance Board.

The Riiser is a stand that you put under your Wii Fit balance board. It brings the top of the wii fit up to a full 4 inch height, which is the standard height for step aerobics. When you are performing step exercises on the Wii Fit minigames, you will get a much better workout.

For some reason I thought the Riiser was just to make your Balance Board higher off the ground if you were using it on a carpet, that's why I started off testing out the Riiser with We Ski & Snowboard. Playing We Ski & Snowboard I was immediately amazed by how much better control I had over my character. When I played the game before the rug tended to absorb the Balance Board as I would lean. The Riiser kept me on a very sturdy pedestal. I liked what I was feeling and decided to try out Wii Fit.

When I went to get the Wii Fit game I read the box that the Riiser came in and I saw the part that said; "It brings the top of the Wii Fit up to a full 4 inch height, which is the standard height for step aerobics." That's when I put 2 and 2 together and realized that the the Riiser wasn't for better control on carpet it was to increase your exercise performance.

Now armed with some more knowledge about the Riiser the first game that came to mind was Advanced Step mini game in Wii Fit. I didn't have a heart monitor hooked up, but holy sh*$% did this thing make my legs hurt (in a good workout kinda way) and my heart race... I played Advanced Step 3 times with the Riiser and 3 without. I can say without a doubt this will increase your aerobic excerise for this particular game. In other games it feels a lot more sturdy, especially if your Balance Board is on a carpet.

One BIG problem for me in particular (this most likely won't affect many other people) was the fact that the 4 extra inches that the Riiser added to the height of the Balance Board, put my head 2 inches into the ceiling of my basement gaming room/play room/office. I had to stay slightly hunched over the whole time testing this out.

Considering how "bland" the game that ships with the Wii Fit is, this one is a joy to play. I'm not a snowboarder, but the controls seems to be accurate and you can definitely feel the burn in your legs. Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party Bundle

Let me start by saying that I used to LOVE the old DDR game back when it was on Xbox. Great techno music to dance to and fun game modes. THIS game however, exciting dance moves and instead replaces it with the Wii Controller. The music was also VERY low-grade, which was not what I was expecting since I am a big 80s music fan.

Wii Rock Band Special Edition

We bought this for Christmas and everything was fine except the drums. The drums on this game suck. We thought we had gotten a bad drum set and sent it back to the manufacturer. They sent us a new drum set and it did the same thing. We called Amazon to let them know what was going on and they were great. We sent it back and our money was credited back to our credit card. Cooking Mama: Cook Off

55 recipes too few (4-6hrs or less to complete).
Some cutting actions or cooking methods not as interesting as others (shaking pepper, salt, and other seasonings is boring).
Often the controls are not sensitive enough and you either get the right motion or you don't, no relative skill/points in between.

My main problem with the game is the decoration of finished food items. You have very little time to play with a finished item and custom decorate it (add a smiley face with ketchup, or otherwise adorn your food). If you spend too much time making a fun looking final dish then you fail the dish. If you splash a random blob of something and hit done then you make great time and are scored better. You can't take all the time you want even if you accept failing the dish, the game forces you out after a brief time no matter what. This is my pet peeve, the game has so few recipes and it doesn't even let you exhaust the fun options on these. It needs a sandbox mode where you can have all the time you want for each step, including the decoration (superficial to game play but an enjoyable element).Buy Cooking Mama: Cook Off!
